Velocette produced a wide range of single cylinder two strokes up until 1946.

The 250 cc GTP is generally regarded as the best of these models. It had a sophisticated oil injection system which preceded by a long period the various offerings on “new” Japanese models marketed many years later

This 1937 model’s early history is unknown. It is sold as part of a deceased estate. The previous owner rallied the bike regularly and it is probably best described as “conserved” rather than restored. It has been in dry storage for around 10 years. Turns over OK and has compression. At some stage it has been rebored with a new piston but apart from that has simply been refurbished as parts wore out. It is so original that it still has the original “push/pull” throttle fitted. These were usually replaced fairly swiftly after purchase as they had a tendency to jam the throttle open. So its possible this bike has accumulated relatively low mileage. Unfortunately, the original mileage was lost when the speedo was overhauled.

Built for regular riding as a rally bike, this is a rare, girder fork bike, simple to ride and maintain. The 4 speed gearbox is one of the high spec features for a pre war two stroke – most only had 3 speeds.
