1902 Elmore model 6. Elmore’s were manufactured, carrying the slogan “the car that has no valves” with all Elmore’s powered by the 2-stroke combustion system. Purchased by General Motors in 1910, the make was discontinued to make way for more body building facilities for more volume lines of GM vehicles in 1912. This 1902 was ordered by Messer A. Hoppes & Sons of Hamilton Square, New Jersey, 19th June 1902, from W. W. Gawthrop Automobiles 242 North Broad Street, Philadelphia and delivered 7th July 1902 at a cost of $US800. The car remained in their possession until 1963 when it was purchased by Frank B. Springer Jr from Russell Hoppes (the Son). The small odometer on the right front wheel read 4141 miles at the time of his purchase. Whilst the car was still very complete, it had not run for many years. Frank restored the car (as you did in the 1960’s) retaining the original body and mechanicals, wheels etc, including its unique internal sparking system. Frank retained the Elmore through to 1980 when it was sold to Micheal Rothchild also of New Jersey. Micheal campaigned the car on many a 1 & 2 cylinder tour on the East Coast of the USA and completed the London to Brighton Run with it in 1997. The car was purchased from Micheal Rothchild’s estate in 2018 and was re-commissioned after nearly 20 years of inactivity. Remarkably in its 124 years, the current owner are only the 4th owners of this car. It measures 2600mm Length, 1500mm Width and 1550 Height.
