The Douglas motorcycle company is famous amongst other things for being one of the two main supplies of military motorcycles to the British Army in World War One. The Douglas Model B was introduced in 1915, primarily for sidecar work eg stretcher bearers, machine gun carriers. The B model featured a major technical advance over the smaller 350cc cycles used by dispatch riders in that it was a full wet sump engine, eliminating the need for two compartments in the main tank.

The reliability of the design was refined in battlefield conditions and Douglas further developed the machine post War.

This example, No 14705, was produced in early 1923, the last year of production and the most developed.

Believed to have been supplied by the Adelaide dealers, Gard Bros, this machine is a significant part of Australian motorcycle history. Gard Bros of Gouger St, Adelaide was the official Douglas dealer. The machine on sale would have been supplied as a solo bike as it has belt final drive after the chain drive to the 3 speed gearbox. The original purchaser and its early ownership are unknown. In recent times it has been fully restored and presents beautifully.

An internet search revealed only one other restored 1923 model B being sold in recent years (by a European dealer). So this is an exceptionally rare 103 year old vehicle.
