An ultra rare and magnificently restored specimen of museum quality! A very lengthy and in depth restoration has led to a excellent example inside and out.
The vendor advises that the previous owner, after working on it sporadically for more than 15 years had carried out a large amount of work including having the motor rebuilt, refurbishing the brakes and replacement of some of the timber frame and metal panels of the body. It was then sold to the current owner who completed remaining work and undertook a lot of research to get this 170 DA as accurate as possible.
The original engine (OM 636 VI / 636 916 00831/52) was considered not worthy of repair as the block casting was broken at the mounting for the starter so a replacement was sought. Another engine (OM 636 VII / 636 930 5509647) was sourced and rebuilt. The number on this engine indicates it is a 1955 engine as produced for W180 cars.
Recently registered on club plates in Victoria (sold unregistered).
These cab chassis were produced by Mercedes Benz in Stuttgart and the sent to the Lueg factory to have the body completed. According to the original data card this particular cab chassis was sent from Stuttgart to the Lueg Factory in Bochum on 29th January, 1952.
No doubt a very rare opportunity and one we are unlikely to see again. Inspections will not disappoint, and this is a must have for the Mercedes Benz Devotee.
