An impressive example of one of Dodge’s most significant muscle cars! This genuine 1967 Dodge Coronet R/T 440 combines authentic factory R/T pedigree, desirable Arizona history, extensive restoration work and carefully considered upgrades. The 1967 model year occupies an important place in Dodge performance history, being the inaugural year of the now legendary R/T – Road/Track – designation. Dodge chose the Coronet to introduce the R/T nameplate, creating a serious performance model with the formidable 440 cubic-inch Magnum V8 at its heart. Produced for just one model year in this body style before the Coronet was comprehensively redesigned for 1968, the first-year 1967 R/T represents a particularly distinctive chapter in Mopar history. Approximately 10,000 Coronet R/Ts were produced for the inaugural 1967 model year, making genuine surviving examples increasingly desirable among enthusiasts and collectors. A simple decoding of the VIN number indicates that it was built as follows: VIN: WS23L71121851 W – Dodge Coronet, S – R/T Series , 23 – Two-door hardtop, L – 440ci High Performance V8, 7 – 1967 model year, 1 – Lynch Road assembly plant, Detroit, 121851 – Vehicle sequential production number The WS23L designation confirms this is a genuine factory 1967 Dodge Coronet R/T two-door hardtop originally specified with the 440 High Performance V8, rather than a later R/T tribute or conversion. The Coronet underwent significant refurbishment prior to the current ownership. The body was repainted in 2019 and presents in a deep, high-gloss finish, with the long body panels presenting exceptionally straight. The front and rear bumpers were also rechromed. In 2020 the 440 V8 was rebuilt and fitted with an Edelbrock intake manifold and carburetor. Rare original-style headers provide another desirable period feature, while an upgraded radiator and thermo fans provide improved cooling capacity. Behind the big-block sits Chrysler’s renowned 727 Torqueflite automatic transmission, with power delivered through an 8 3/4-inch rear differential. It is a robust drivetrain combination ideally suited to the considerable torque and character of the 440. The interior was refurbished in 2020 with new hood lining, carpet and seat covers. Importantly, the refurbishment retained period components including the door cards and dashboard, helping preserve the character and authenticity of the cabin rather than replacing everything with modern reproduction components. Since acquiring the Coronet, the current owner has continued to improve and maintain the vehicle with an emphasis on quality, reliability and retaining an appropriate period appearance. Recent improvements and maintenance include Calvert suspension components with upgraded shock absorbers, custom mandrel-bent twin 2.5-inch fully polished stainless-steel exhaust, upgraded disc brakes and master cylinder, brand-new period-correct Magnum-style wheels with staggered rear fitment, brand-new BFGoodrich radial T/A tyres all round, ceramic paint protection, dedicated vinyl-roof protection , regular six-month servicing and comprehensive major service recently completed. This is a genuine 1967 WS23L Dodge Coronet R/T 440 – representing the very first year of Dodge’s legendary Road/Track story.
