1967 saw the Pontiac Catalina receive an increase in cubic inches, horsepower, and crank-twist. The 2+2’s design was refreshed completely, from the sweeping roofline of the fastback to the retracting and concealed wipers to its iconic front-end styling.
With 144 of them fitted with the M20 wide-ratio manual transmission, the remaining 117 are divided between three-speed manuals (standard equipment, by the way) and the optional Turbo Hydra-Matic automatics. The latter was a rather costly option – at $226, the same as the four-speed manual – it was among the most expensive add-ons money could buy on a Catalina 2+2 in 1967. The air conditioning system stood alone at $420, followed at a great distance by the $239 AM/FM Stereo radio and the Ventura Custom hardtop with bucket seats ($248).
Call them rare because they are, no matter how we look at the numbers very few have survived.
