The 1969 Honda CB750 “Sandcast” is an ultra-Early Production Example #976.
A legendary, hand built, early-production superbike, with the first featuring engine cases produced via gravity sand-casting, giving them a distinct, rougher texture. This example is a matching numbers bike and has undergone a full Nut-and-bolt restoration, completed with a strong emphasis on correctness, authenticity, and early-production detail. Matching numbers – original engine, Correct Sandcast gauge gear drives, Correct rolled rear rim restored, “wrinkle” fuel tank, Rare recessed ignition, Correct double-cut front fender restored, properly restored Lotus Roots exhaust system and numerous correct early-production castings and fittings throughout. These details clearly distinguish this machine from later CB750 variants and highlight both the significance of the example and the quality of the restoration. Importantly, the motorcycle retains its original matching-numbers engine and is in running condition, making it both a serious collector piece and a functioning historical machine. Bearing the frame number #976 this motorcycle is within approximately the first 1,000 units manufactured. These early CB750s represent the birth of the modern superbike and remain among the most significant and collectible Japanese motorcycles ever produced.
With its extremely low production number, matching-numbers status, correct Sandcast components, and comprehensive restoration, CB750 #976 represents a rare opportunity to acquire one of the earliest surviving examples of Honda’s landmark superbike. Inspections will not disappoint.
