Part of the McFeeters Motor Museum since its opening, this one is a must for all those who like the oddball and rare. Believed to be a 1999 built Kia Elan, it was purchased by the McFeeters at a public trustee auction approximately 20 years ago. It has not been registered in Australia as far as we can tell but was driven around the time of purchase. It hasn’t been started in approximately 18 years and there has been no attempt to start. Information we have been able to source indicates that the Kia Elan was produced by Kia Motors from 1996-1999, it was based on the Lotus Elan M100 design after Kia bought the rights and tooling. It featured a Kia 1.8L engine (unlike the Lotus’s turbo), slightly raised suspension, and different interior/rear lights, aiming to be a budget sports car for the Korean market, but production was limited (around 1,000 units) due to quality issues and lack of sales. This is a exceptionally rare opportunity and one we won’t see come up again.
