In 2001, after obtaining a car and then preparing it for the rigours of outback Australia, the team participated in our first of many Treks. Starting in Byron Bay and traveling via a number of very remote out back locations including Mt Iza, the Trek finished in Mosman north of Cairns. Despite being the NAB teams first entry in the Trek we won the award for that year’s biggest donation to the RFD.
The years following has seen our team grow eventually to three Trek cars all of which have criss-crossed Australia once again visiting many of Australia’s most remote towns and populations. During this time the NAB team has raised funds not only from the NAB but also from a wide selection suppliers and contractors to the NAB. This sponsorship in turn has allowed us to donate funds each year to the RFD, our current total of monies donated is between $900,000 and $1,000,000.
All of the Trek cars are decorated with signage recognising the contributions of the various sponsors, there is particular emphasis on the NAB’s involvement and we have always been referred to within the Trek community as the NAB team. Whilst still early on in our involvement with the Trek, there was story included in the Banks Annual Report, this story drew attention to the Bank’s positive involvement in public benefit activities.
