“The archives of an Artisan” – signs and stencils from the master-craftsman at the Geelong Enamel Works.
During his decades working at the “Victorian Enamel Works” (later known as “Geelong Enamel Works”) he made signs in his spare time from old factory stencils and drawings, as well as designs he created himself and from original old signs. All are made in the traditional method of VITREOUS ENAMEL, which is essentially hand-laid coloured glass pastes fired at very high temperatures, so very labour intensive.
Produced from the 1970’s until the early 2000’s, some of these are one offs, others were produced in limited runs for the reproduction market.
These are the last of them, so marks the end of an era.
