The 1985 Holden VK Group A SS “Blue Meanie” (Lot 46) also generated significant interest, passing in before selling shortly after the auction for an undisclosed amount, securing its place among the top performing lots. Other strong performers included the 1990 Holden VN SS Group A (Build No.147, Lot 20) at $149,738, followed by a 1959 Jaguar XK150 FHC Coupe (Lot 90) which sold for $100,009. A Lifetime of Collecting – The Trevor & Kerry Hargreaves Collection: Part 3 & 4 Coming Soon

By What's News

The Trevor & Kerry Hargreaves Collection – a remarkable multi-part auction, now entering its next chapter with Burns & Co

Some collections begin with a single item. For Trevor Hargreaves, it began in childhood.

An only child for many years, Trevor says his mother first encouraged him to collect cigarette packets. From there, the habit of collecting never really left him. Over decades, that early fascination grew into an extraordinary and deeply personal collection shaped by family, service, travel and memory.

Now, that lifetime of collecting is being brought to market through Burns & Co as The Trevor & Kerry Hargreaves Collection – a significant multi-part unreserved auction.

Parts 1 and 2 have already been successfully offered, following the full Burns & Co process of collecting, transporting, cataloguing and presenting the items for auction.

This week in Yarrawonga, the Burns & Co team returned to Trevor and Kerry’s property to begin the next stage – carefully loading the remaining items for Parts 3 and 4 onto trucks for transport back to our Bayswater facility.

Watch the full story of the Trevor & Kerry Hargreaves Collection below.

With a dedicated team onsite, the collection is being handled with meticulous care and attention to detail, as each item is carefully packed, secured and prepared for transport. From there, it will be returned to Bayswater where every piece will be individually catalogued, photographed and prepared for auction.

Watching the process unfold on site, it was clear that collections of this scale are not just built over a lifetime – they also require significant expertise and coordination behind the scenes to bring them to market properly.

And this is no ordinary collection.

Parts 1 and 2 featured an impressive selection of enamel and screen-print signs across a wide range of categories. The upcoming parts continue to reveal the depth of the Hargreaves collection, including vintage tools, blacksmith equipment, farming items, framed advertising, militaria and household pieces.

It is, as our team described it, very much “an old collection” – built over many years, with items you simply don’t see come to genuine public auction.

But what stood out most during our visit was that this collection is about far more than the items themselves.

Behind every piece is a story.

Trevor’s life has been shaped by country life, family, military service and community. Called up for Vietnam, he served during a defining chapter of his life and returned home with memories that remain an important part of his story today.

There is also a strong family thread running throughout. Trevor’s parents both served during the Second World War, and together Trevor and Kerry have built a life centred around family, hard work and years of travelling Australia – often stopping at antique stores and country towns along the way, adding one more piece to the collection.

For Kerry, that meant years of travelling alongside Trevor and making room for each new find. For Trevor, it meant building a collection that reflects a lifetime of experiences.

When the time came to sell, the decision was both practical and considered.

Rather than leaving a large collection for family to manage in the future, Trevor chose to pass it on now – allowing others to enjoy the pieces while also supporting his family through the proceeds.

As Burns & Co prepares Parts 3 and 4 for auction, the work continues behind the scenes – with every item handled, documented and presented with care to ensure it reaches the market in the best possible way.

Trevor said he would recommend Burns & Co to others considering consigning, describing the team as efficient, supportive and easy to deal with throughout the process. Kerry echoed that sentiment, highlighting the communication and professionalism shown along the way.

For Burns & Co, collections like Trevor and Kerry’s are what make this work meaningful.

Auctions are never just about what is sold – they are about people, histories and the trust involved in passing treasured items on to their next custodian.

The Trevor & Kerry Hargreaves Collection is exactly that: a lifetime of collecting, now moving into its next chapter.

If you are considering selling a collection, downsizing an estate, or simply want to understand what your items may be worth, the Burns & Co team can guide you through the process with care, experience and national reach.

“The Easiest Car I’ve Ever Sold”: Bruno’s Fairlane Auction Success

By What's News

A 1976 Ford ZH Fairlane finds the right buyer through national reach, competitive bidding and a seamless, hassle-free process.

When it came time to sell his 1976 Ford ZH Fairlane 351 V8 Automatic Sedan, Bruno knew he needed a process that was efficient, reliable and delivered access to the right buyers.

“I just needed a sale that I knew was final. I didn’t have the time to advertise it myself, and with the type of car I had, it needed the right audience – not just marketplace buyers.”

Having followed Burns & Co Auctions for years, Bruno turned to the team for their national reach and proven results in the classic car market.

A Seamless, Well-Managed Process

From the initial setup through to auction day, the experience was smooth and professionally handled.

“The setup, presentation and organisation were very well done. Any questions I had, Phil answered quickly and explained everything clearly.”

Bruno worked closely with the team throughout the campaign, with clear communication and guidance along the way.

“When I suggested changing strategy, Phil reassured me to give it a bit more time and then review it. That gave me confidence everything was under control.”

National Reach That Delivered

Selling in Night 1 of the March Classic & Collector Auction (16 March), Bruno’s Fairlane benefited from strong national exposure and competitive bidding.

“The coverage you guys get is what makes the difference. It’s a very refined market, and you need the right buyers – that’s exactly what Burns & Co bring.”

The online bidding platform also impressed.

“It was the first time I followed one of your auctions live, and it was very easy to navigate. You knew exactly what was happening.”

Auction Performance & Result

The result met – and exceeded – expectations.

“It achieved what I wanted, but I was still surprised I got it.”

Bruno also highlighted the strength of the auctioneering in driving competition.

“They really work the bidding. There were times you thought it was done, and then they’d keep extracting a bit more. Ashley absolutely got every dollar out of it.”

A Truly Hassle-Free Experience

For Bruno, the standout was just how easy the entire process felt.

“It’s the easiest car I’ve ever sold. No tyre kickers, no hassle – you just drop it off, log in and watch it happen.”

Compared to other selling options, the difference was clear.

“You’ll get a better result than trying to sell it yourself – and without the hassle.”

A Strong Recommendation

As a first-time seller with Burns & Co, Bruno said the experience exceeded expectations.

“I really can’t fault it. I could try to think of something to complain about for a week and wouldn’t find anything.”

With a standout result achieved and a seamless process from start to finish, it’s clear why more sellers are choosing auction.

Our February Muscle, Classic & Collectable Car & Motorcycle Auction came to a conclusion earlier this week over two seperate nights on Monday & Tuesday, and boy was it an awesome auction!

With a fantastic clearance rate of 84%, bidders were spoilt for choice and you could tell with much in the way of competitive bidding on the floor, online, via the phones and absentee bidders leading to some mighty sales!

The top selling lot in this edition of our Muscle, Classic & Collectable Car & Motorcycle Auction came as the second last lot of Night 2, a fantastic Australian delivered 1989 Porsche 911 Carrera 3.2L Coupe Manual, which had heaps of bidding interest from the get go of this auction. It sold for an awesome price of $192,325. The second top selling lot of this auction was a first for us here at Burns & Co and there was no denying it’s popularity with bidders. It was the 1982 Holden HDT VH SS Group 3 5LT V8 Manual that took second place in this auction, reaching a price of $146,716 by the time the hammer swung. Rounding out the Top 3 of this auction was a pristine 1973 Holden HQ Monaro GTS Tribute 308 V8 Coupe which sold for a fantastic price of $134,078, with the winning buyer being a floor bidder come out on top after a 10 minute bidding war!

A 40-Year Custodianship: The Farm-Kept XW GTHO Time Capsule

By What's News

A 40-Year Custodianship: The Farm-Kept XW GTHO Time Capsule

Some cars are simply owned. Others are cared for, preserved and quietly become part of a family’s story.

A recent visit by the Burns & Co team took us on a four-hour drive from our Newcastle Auction Rooms to a 6,000-acre farm near Gunnedah, home to Allan Riordan and family and home to something truly special, Allan’s prized 1969 Ford XW GTHO Phase 1.

The car has been on the property since the mid-1980s and remains a genuine time warp. Stored on the same rural property for decades, it has lived a quiet, sheltered life away from heavy use and modification. Still wearing its original paint and interior, and accompanied by its books, it represents the kind of authenticity collectors dream about.

The odometer now shows 28,032 miles, and the car remains a matching-numbers example, importantly unrestored and unmodified, preserving its originality.

Allan purchased the GTHO from a Tamworth yard in 1983 for $13,000 and it has remained in his care ever since.

Over four decades of continuous ownership is a rarity for any GTHO, and this long-term custodianship forms a key part of the car’s story.

The history stretches back even further. Allan later tracked down the original owner, Mr Harold Bunting, a former Ford employee in Geelong. Harold shared that the car was one of the very last sold by Ford, having been retained as a backup for the great Alan Moffat. The service books show Harold purchased the car from Ford with just 1,226 miles on the clock, described at the time as having “a lot of extra work done at the factory.”

Documented history and traceable ownership further strengthen the car’s provenance.

Now, after more than 40 years as part of the Riordan family, the time has come for the next chapter. With Allan’s health not what it once was, the decision has been made to pass the car on to its next custodian.

Finished in Candy Apple Red with Dark Saddle interior and presented in remarkably original condition, this is an honest and highly desirable example.

Cars with this level of continuous ownership and documented history rarely surface.

The XW GTHO Phase 1 is now booked into the Burns & Co Classic & Collectable Car Auction scheduled for Monday 16 March 2026.

For collectors who value story, provenance and authenticity, this is a special opportunity.

Because cars like this aren’t just vehicles, they’re part of Australian motoring heritage.

If you would like to know more about this particularly car, please call Ashley Burns 0408 618 294 or

A Fond Farewell to a Lifetime Collection: The McFeeters Motor Museum Auction

By What's News

A Fond Farewell to a Lifetime Collection: The McFeeters Motor Museum Auction

The recent McFeeters Motor Museum Auction marked the close of an extraordinary chapter for Jan and Bill McFeeters, whose passion for classic vehicles and motoring history shaped one of regional Australia’s most admired private motor vehicle collections.

After 19 years of building and sharing their museum with the community, the couple entrusted Burns & Co Auctions to present their collection to the next generation of collectors.

A Decision Built on Trust

Jan said their decision to engage Burns & Co came down to reputation and prior experience. The McFeeters had followed a previous Burns & Co auction of Charlie McCarron’s collection in Canowindra, which left a strong impression.

“We were familiar with a collection Burns & Co had handled before, and when the process was explained to us, it just felt right. Before Ashley was even out of town, we’d decided to go ahead.”

Bill later located Burns & Co through Just Cars magazine, prompting the first call that led to the onsite visit and eventual booking.

Professional Preparation

Months of preparation preceded the sale, with the auction team onsite cataloguing, photographing and presenting the vehicles, and the catalogue available online well ahead of auction day.

“The organisation was amazing. The team were here well before the sale, and having the catalogue online for a month beforehand was very efficient,” Jan said.

Auction Day Atmosphere

While parting with a long-held collection was emotional, the McFeeters said the day itself was positive and well supported.

“We had a great roll-up of people and some very good bidders we wouldn’t have had without their client network,” Bill said.

National online bidding helped broaden reach, attracting interstate buyers and collectors who may not otherwise have attended.

“It was a great system and certainly brought wider interest,” Jan added.

Bidding interest included seasoned collectors and high-profile buyers, reflecting the calibre and desirability of the vehicles on offer. Many lots found homes across multiple states.

Stories Behind the Cars

Among the many standout moments was the top-selling 1923 Rolls-Royce 20HP Tourer. An earlier owner attended the auction hoping to buy the car back, while a past restorer shared how the vehicle once arrived as little more than a rolling chassis and boxes of parts – a testament to the craftsmanship and dedication behind its preservation.

These stories reinforced the rich provenance and personal histories woven through the collection.

Results and Reflections

While individual lot prices varied, the overall result aligned closely with expectations.

“Some prices were above expectation, some a little under, but the final figure was very close to what Bill had hoped for. We’ve got to be happy with that,” Jan said.

The couple also praised the prompt settlement process.

“The prompt payment amazed us. That builds trust and reputation,” Bill noted.

“It’s a big job and we just wouldn’t have been able to handle this ourselves. The staff have been amazing and we’ve just been impressed with the whole thing.”
— Jan & Bill McFeeters

A True Family Effort

Jan was quick to acknowledge their daughter Jill and extended family, who supported both the museum and the auction.

“We couldn’t have run this place without Jill, and we certainly couldn’t have managed the sale without her. She never stopped and always with good humour. Having our family there meant a lot to us.”

A Strong Recommendation

Reflecting on the experience, Jan said:

“We would certainly recommend Burns & Co – for their efficiency, their team, and their ability to handle an onsite sale. It’s a big job and we simply couldn’t have done it ourselves.”

As the McFeeters prepare to hand over the site to its new custodians, the auction stands as a celebration of decades of passion, preservation and community – and a fitting farewell to a remarkable collection.
