An Absolute Classic In Newcastle – The 1938 Chrysler Custom Imperial Town Limo

By What's News

Cars Are Rolling In For The Sunday 16th of June Burns & Co Classic & Collectable Car Auction.

!! TAKING ENTRIES NOW !!

An absolute Classic In Newcastle

In 1938, the Custom Imperial was stretched further, to a 144 inch wheelbase, and while the standard Imperials had a painted, highly polished wood-grain finish to the dashboard, those of the Custom were painted to harmonize with the upholstery.

Imperial Custom vs Custom Imperial was to be reflected years later with Imperial Crown vs Crown Imperial.
The main changes in 1938 were a side-opening hood, a horn ring on the steering wheel (replacing the dash-mounted button), moving the emergency brake, rubber-insulated steering gear, a first for any auto maker and front and rear sway bars, the only Chrysler model to have both.

The sight of this Superb 1938 Custom Imperial arriving here at our Newcastle facility was something to remember, rolling into the building in absolute grand style after driving a 200km trip from Sydney.

This era of motor vehicle manufacturing is long past us now, however we are lucky to see some absolutely beautiful examples still present and this car is one … and possibly the only one !!

Ford Coupe running a 302 V8 Windsor and C4 Automatic.

This well known and documented car has featured in many car magazines and articles. It was built in South Africa, and originally ran a V6 Capri engine. The car was given to Basil Green of Perana Motor Company for an engine and transmission conversion. The car was then returned to Ford and sold off the showroom floor. It was eventually imported to Australia by the second owner and registered on full Victorian registration (note that the car is being sold unregistered) and used on occasions as a club car.

πŸ‘ŠπŸ‘ŠπŸ‘Š May Classic & Collectable Car Auction TOP 10 RESULTS πŸ‘ŠπŸ‘ŠπŸ‘Š

By What's News

Sunday 5th of May saw the latest edition of the Burns & Co Classic & Collectable Car Auction take place.

It was great to have so many online, phone and absentee bidders as well as a very well populated bidding floor at our Melbourne facility making for an amazing day.
The day got off to a bang early with the auction of Lot 8 an absolutely gorgeous 1968 Holden HK GTS 327 Monaro Tribute. Having seen strong pre-bidding on this car there was great interest as to what would happen come the live auction. The bidding jumped out of blocks early seeing the car price shooting up. After a brief cooling of bids, the bidders again kicked into gear fighting it out until the hammer fell with the price on $258,265. Owner Andrew was a very happy man. “I love the set up here, it is amazing. It’s intimate, not too big but not too small. I found the Burns and Co staff very good to deal with. They provided good service, great advice and were honest in their assessment of my car. The presentation and the description of my car was spot on. I would totally recommend Burns & Co, especially for selling muscle cars.”
This set the tone for the rest of the day with a number of very strong results and a clearance rate of 90%. The second highest selling lot was lot 55, a 1976 Ford Falcon XB GT Coupe which reached $151,662.Β  The Red 1962 Chevrolet Corvette Auto 327 ($145,617) and the 1927 Rolls Royce Phantom 1 ($100,558) were the other cars to top the $100,000 mark with the 1963 Holden EH Special Sedan V8 also getting quite close ($97,811).
The Top ten results can be viewed in the below gallery. And for all results for the auction, you can click here.
A huge thank you to our vendors, staff and bidders for making this sale a success, and most importantly for choosing Burns & Co.
