Don’t miss out on this one!

Is this the best VN Group A SS around? Well, it certainly is the best one we’ve seen. And the kicker? It is being offered for auction UNRESERVED!!!

This beautiful 1990 Holden VN SS Group A Build No: 034 V8 Manual has only 52,353 Kms on the clock and the only way to describe this time capsule is mint. This one has come into our Bayswater showroom to finalise part of a deceased estate, and this Group A has been lovingly cared for by its late owner for the past 23 years. Very well looked after it has been tucked up in the garage not seeing rain or UV in a very long time and it’s now time for it to find a new home.

Outside, this car, a 5.0 Litre V8 Manual and build number 034, is impeccable with it appearing to have not had any paint work touched up or altered since the day it rolled off the line, the interior is schmick with no wear or fading on any of the upholstery. It also comes complete with the original books verifying it is a matching numbers car.

This is an example that defines investment quality and collectability and will no doubt impress any potential buyers. Its up for auction UNRESERVED in our  September Muscle, Classic & Collectable Car & Motorcycle Auction to be held on Monday 1st & Tuesday 2nd (and Wednesday 3rd if required) of September 2025.

View more information, images and video on this VN SS Group A here.

Wynn’s Shearing Oil – A rare tin we recently sold with a special story!

By What's News

Who doesn’t love a feel good story?

Here at Burns & Co, we get a lot of desirable collectables that come through our auctions, however this Wynn’s Shearing Oil Tin that featured in our Next Level Collectors Auction on the 30th June was especially desirable for the winning bidder. The Wynn’s Shearing Oil Tin features a well renowned sheep shearer on the front by the name of Kevin Sarre, and the buyer, a man named Ricky Sarre, happens to be the son of the man on the tin cover!

The story Ricky told about his father and his shearing career was spectacular. His father Kevin wasn’t just any ordinary shearer, he was in fact a prodigy that had been highly regarded within the world of shearing on a competitive level. He began at an early age and by age 17, was able to shear his first 300 sheep in a day. He was a 5 time National Champion, a Golden Shears winner in 1963 and in 1965 (the first Aussie to win one), became a world record holder shearing a total of 346 sheep in one day! Kevin also notably contributed to the formulation of the ‘Tally hi’ method of shearing, a practice that is widely used today to shear sheep efficiently and reduce the overall stress on both the sheep and shearer.

It was unbeknownst to Ricky that his father had done a promotion for Wynn’s Shearing Oil , however it was 20 years ago when a friend of his came across it at first and recognised who was on the front of the tin. Learning of the tins existence, Ricky was determined to get his hand on one and it was through Burns & Co where he finally gained that opportunity, coming out as the winning bidder when the hammer struck on a rare tin that showcases his fathers legacy.

Kevin Sarre passed away in 1995 at the age of 62 years old, and his legacy is something that lives on in his children, with Ricky taking up shearing himself and his sister becoming a world record holding shearer too. With his hands on this very special tin, Ricky said that he’ll be having it sit in the lounge room proudly on display.

This story that Ricky shared was something that really did touch the team here at Burns & Co, as it just goes to show that the items and collectables that come through our auctions are sometimes destined to end up in hands of the right buyer!

October Muscle, Classic & Collectable Car & Motorcycle Auction – RESULTS RECAP

By What's News

What an auction this October edition was, with over 106 lots, massive bidding interest and a clearance rate over 90%, it was huge!

The October edition of the Muscle, Classic & Collectable Car & Motorcycle Auction wrapped up this week over three massively successful nights! With 106 desirable lots on display between our two headquarters in Bayswater Victoria and Beresfield NSW, there was a lot of anticipation as this catalogue oozed quality, and it showed, with a final clearance rate achieved of over 90%!

Night one of this massive auction kicked off on October 7th and had an Aussie theme to it, with a large number of highly collectable Holden and Ford vehicles going under the hammer. Night two showcased some of the best muscle and classic vehicles on offer produced outside of Australia, with many classic American, European and Japanese cars and bikes going under the hammer. It proved to be a very popular night with some tremendous results being recorded, and with a number of floor bidders going home with a new prized car or bike! The third and final night put the exclamation point on this very successful auction, with every lot on the final day selling at good prices!

The car that had everyone’s attention on Night 1 was the UNRESERVED 1972 Holden HQ Monaro GTS 308 5.0 Litre V8 Coupe. Painted in the terrific Chateau Mauve and with only 15,050 genuine miles, it sold at a deservedly big price at $232,438, the highest price of the entire 3 night auction! Coming second on the night after selling post auction was the fully engineered 1970 Holden HG Monaro Coupe LS3 Supercharged, which sold for an impressive $230,790! Rounding out the top 3 on the night was one of Holden’s more recent muscle vehicles, the 2017 Holden HSV GTS-R Maloo Utility LSA Manual which sold for a princely $164,850!

Night 2 proved to be a big night for cars and bikes with the legendary and instantly recognisable 1966 Ford GT40 Tribute Manual being the top seller on night, reaching a final price of $129,132. The second best-selling car on the night, the 1959 Cadillac 62 Series V8 Automatic Coupe garnered a crowd of interested floor bidders, at the fall of the hammer, the car was able to reach the final selling price of 108,801. Amongst the bikes, it was the 1928 Harley Davidson J Model that ended up being the top seller, with the highly desirable motorcycle reaching a final overall price of $35,325, a fantastic achievement!

The auction came to a full close on Night 3, with all 26 lots featuring on the final night selling, meaning a massive 100% clearance rate on the final night to a close out an absolutely fantastic overall auction!

By What's News

Your chance to own Frankie J’s FJ!

This very nice FJ Holden of Iconic Australian singer, actor and TV presenter Frankie J Holden (OAM) is up for auction with Burns & Co in our July Muscle, Classic & Collectable Car & Motorcycle auction on Monday the 28th of July 2025.

Frankie J Holden was originally best known for fronting the band Ol’ 55, which had a hit with “On the Prowl” from their debut album, Take It Greasy which peaked at number three on the Australian Kent Music Report Albums Chart in 1976. In the early 2000s, Holden was back on the music scene with the Ol’ Skydaddies, a band featuring members from Ol’ 55, Daddy Cool and Skyhooks.

On the acting front Holden played permanent or short-term roles in some of Australia’s most classic TV shows like Prisoner, Care of The Bartons, Round the Twist, The Flying Doctors, A Country Practice, Police Rescue, Blue Heelers, Halifax f.p, Something in the Air, Underbelly and The Strip. He has also played numerous movie roles including in movies like Clubland, ProofThe Big StealReturn HomeEvil Angels and High Tide, and had a cameo appearance in Michael Thornhill’s 1977 movie The FJ Holden.

Then from 1996 until 1998, Holden was the host of the revamped Monday evening variety show In Melbourne Tonight, co-featuring Julia Morris and Denise Drysdale. In 2009 he co-presented Discover Downunder an Australia-based travelling/caravanning program alongside his wife Michelle and then co-hosted the similar What’s Up Down Under in 2010.

An iconic car like this FJ Holden is a highly desirable car on its own, but when you add to it the fact it has been owned by such a well known and loved Australian icon like Frankie J, who shares the same name, this truly is a one in a lifetime opportunity to own this rare Holden piece.
