Historic 1906 Merryweather Fire Engine Up for Auction

By What's News

25th August 2024!

This Museum quality fire engine is an extremely rare opportunity to own a significant piece of history.

A Circa 1906 Merryweather Horse Drawn Fire Engine, it is an outstanding older restoration. It comes with a custom trailer for ease of transport (Not Registered) and it has a large amount of historical research/documentation included.

Weighing over 3 tonnes and requiring 2 horses to pull it, this (C) 1906 Merryweather Fire Pump was built in the UK at a time when equipment was moving away from manual steam pumps to motorized versions.

This example features a very early 10-liter Hatfield pump and a 3-cylinder piston pump of radial design. It is capable of pumping 450 gallons per minute.

This Particular Merryweather was originally imported into Australia by the Townsville Meat Works for the protection of their huge meat exportation business. It remained unused until the early 1970s when it was shipped to Warrnambool Victoria then acquired by Norm Meades, a then member of the fire Museum of Victoria who painstakingly researched and restored the Merryweather.

A huge array of research and documentation relating to the Merryweather brand is included.

This fantastic piece will go up for auction on the 25th of August at the Burns & Co Classic and Collectable Car Auction and is one not to be missed.

View more images of the Engine here or you can view the Burns & Co Classic and Collectable Car Auction page here to see what else is on offer. The auction catalogue will go live on Thursday 15th of August so keep an eye on both those pages, and on our Facebook page to stay up to date and for your opportunity to bid. Bidding will be online initially, and the auction will conclude at 4 Market Drive, Bayswater, Vic on Sunday the 25th of August with bidding kicking off at 10 am (AEST).
